Its name means ‘moon light’, and the house is organised around exactly that: a tall gable, framed in timber and filled with glass, that lifts above the clay-tiled roofs like a lantern. By day the gable draws light in; by night the house glows out.

Around it, the architecture stays earthy and low. Exposed-brick walls — some solid, some opened into perforated jali — screen the rooms from the road while letting air move through. Wide steps lead up to the entrance through a garden planted to feel lush from the very first season.

It is a house that takes the vocabulary of Kerala’s tiled roofs and brick, and gives it one bright, contemporary moment.
